World-First 3D Printed Airless Bicycle Tire
World-First 3D Printed Airless Bicycle Tire
BigRep’s new flexible filament means you can print industrial objects that bend to your will.
We printed the world’s first 3D printed airless bicycle tire using BigRep TPU filament, and took it for a spin in Berlin.

Very great concept !
I’m gonna need a bigger printer
Me encantó esa rueda
At least make it in interlocking pieces so I don’t have to take the damn wheel off to change tyres
so… what about grip? and about cornering… i dont think i can corner with this bike with cofidence of leaning ? (not even say about it on a descent at high speed), also, how much kms beforre the "thread" wears??? another one, to how many PSI does the rigidity of this wheel is equivalent?
I want one.
try speed 30 km/h, 50 km/h …it is ussles ..
GREAT!! Bicycles are booming so this can be of a great relevance!!
Where can I get the .stl for this ?
what is in corners?
this solution, combined with in wheel suspension patented by loop-wheel, combined with an electric geared hub motor will provide you a low maintenance electric bicycle wheel.
Algo que sirve para ahorrar a los ciudadanos en bicicletas, coches y motos? qué poco va a durar…
I’m guessing this is intended for low speeds with while perfectly perpendicular to the ground? Turning with any speed is typically done at a lean and i feel like that would fold the tire. Traditional tires and even traditional airless will have more or less even pressure from bead to wall to tread. I wonder if anyone on the dev team has any involvement in any competitive or even recreational cycling communities.
When will these be available to buy?
There are already available in china (nedong tires)
I would like to know what the durability regarding how long they last or its wear-time in distance. Can you change the hardness to be best in rolling resistance for your personal weight…?
Production wise… it might take two spools a tire? So at least $200 a piece? Plus electricity. Maybe. One set an hour? Which still isn’t bad for an emerging market. If consumers actually worried about waste. Reminds me of Allbirds. Well. Concept more than materials. Unless TPU can be post consumer then, you hit all the conscious consumers. I don’t know. It’s a neat idea. If your machines weren’t $50,000 I’d try it. Haha.
мэдисон в конце засветился на велике
The question is: Is the material biodegradable? Is it harmful to the nature? Because the micro-plastic emissions from the car tires are a big problem because it get´s in the rivers and in the oceans.
unidirectional carbon fiber reinforced TPU anyone?
adding a tension belt made with a pultrusion of recycled rubber and fiber??
Lol, put this on a bmx bike and watch this get destroyed at the skatepark
I love how people don’t have the tiniest clue about 3d printing but put things here like most comments are, not smart, you can print any pattern you design with tpu so you don’t have to have concerns about grip or other things.
i think this tire too hard for aggresive driving and crosscountry,But it is real progress and in near future all bikes will be equipped with similar tires.
Nice tire, nice bike! I have the same, what brand is the front rack that you have?
should print it with some grippy push rims on the side for wheelchair users
Well… I think these tires will be a fantastic option in wheelchairs
Cool Tire!
Someone forgot to buy the background track… still has the audio ‘watermark’
Good but why you didnt make it slick and not with grip pattern?
OMG.. it took us how many years to figure this out?
I would like to pilot this please 🙂
Seems like the holes in the tire would be problematic for cleanliness if you do much riding in non-urban settings (e.g. sand/dirt/rocks on trails).
can you print such tire for MTB downhill?
fucking used a song with the "audio jungle" watermark in it. hahaha
And … where can I get one ?
Please 😀
nice gadget…needs some work to make them really functional me thinks
