Let us know what you think of these one of kind shoes in the comments below 👇
Coming in at $1000, there is no denying that these shoes are on the upper end of the pricing scale. Ex-Professional Cyclist Simon Richardson talks through these shoes and what he finds so special about them.
The project to produce these shoes began in 2011 after pro-riders demanded a very light shoe whilst remaining stiff and great power transmission. So it has certainly been a lengthy process to be able to release this two piece shoe.
Part 1 of the shoe is the carbon fibre outer, almost skeleton like, which is very light and maintains excellent strength. The stack height of the shoe is 4.5mm. This means that your foot is able to transmit power very efficiently with minimum loss.
Part 2 of the shoe is the inner “bootie”. It’s designed with hot weather riding and is made of a synthetic material, that integrates with the the outer shell and gives a bonded-like joint through friction to allow the foot to not move around. The bootie also features an insole, which is replaceable with a higher volume insole should your feet require.
Why two pieces? Mavic discovered a reduction in calf muscle activity with this system when pedalling and then established there is a greater muscular efficiency. Due to the lower ankle design of the shoe, Mavic also worked out that the increased movement of ankle mean that a rider could have a better pedal stroke, thus leading to more power at the dead point of pedalling.
The shoes come complete with a cleaning cloth and also overshoes, how cool?!

Hate to say this, but I fully expect to see these shoes heavily discounted next year when nobody buys them….
Does the reduced stack height mean Matt will be able to clip in?
Super tech!
There’s a few minutes of my life I won’t get back. GCN credibility took a very steep nosedive with this commercial.
Are these compatible with magnetic pedals? I’m an above knee amputee. Trying to figure a nice setup. Get to claim it through insurance. Having myself clipped in scared the hell outta me. Also I take it these wouldn’t be good for the trails?
What happens if I fall in those shoes will the carbon break👀🤔
Calf activity increase, check…
19% ankle movement change, check…
3% spincter tone reduction, check…
lets go riding
$1,000 I thought that shoe’s have Power Meter build in… SMH.(By the way, IF that shoe with Power Meter come’s out i want royalty in it) Welcome.
What size
These shoes are still $700, & they’re not much lighter than my Bontrager XXX shoes…that I got on Ebay for $45
What a thrill it would be to win a pair of shoes like these – only to find out that they are not your size! 😛
While I can see that a thicker sole surely would help if you have a smaller foot, I doubt it’s a "one size fits all" kind of shoe. 😉
I’m strictly oldskool but that is something else, top marks to mavic an gcn of course
narrow toebox. unusable. vote down.
Yummy yummy shoes!!
Mavik.
the new pros at marginal gains.
Can you run up Mt Ventoux in them?
Impressive, but expensive. I have snowboard boots that use the same BOA Cable system, I get 3 days use before the tightening mechanism fails. For the cost I hope these fair better!
1 million subs, congratulions!!
Stupid tech.

Si, Mavic ProCarbon Exalith,Black check,Mavic Aksium Helmet check…mavic comete ultimate road shoe……….
Anyone else have to google manolo blahnik?
whos Win?
uh, who won the last one?
Mavic’s claims are total garbage marketing jive… until independently verified.
Seems the opposite approach of the Sworks 6 shoe which looks to stiffen and grip the heel more…..?
I’d be afraid to get off my bike in these and shatter the carbon on a stone.
Are they disc brake rotor proof?
Is there a peer reviewed study confirming these power saving claims or is this more fake science from a bike company?
look past the price and this could be the first step in new cycling footwear design. new technology always starts at the top end, F1 technology more often than not eventually filters down to everyday motor vehicles. the two part system is potentially a revelation. don’t be surprised if in a few years this is common place in most brands range of shoes. I for one think this is a fantastic design., but time will tell how effective it is.
looks great time 2 test them !
never won anything. literally anything. this is it 😀
that’s really unfair :'( I never win
Can you just wear the outer?
Can you imagine humiliation as you’re getting dropped, wearing $1,000 cycling shoes?
I’m sure having a new toy to play with contributed somewhat to the 70% who performed better to exhaustion
1000 bucks, that is insane for shoes
love these 😍
If they are giving away that pair of shoes does that mean you have to get lucky enough to win the contest and then double as lucky for them to fit?
I don’t really understand how having the components of the shoe be separable actually does anything other than potentially counter the stated aim. Kind of seems therefore like a bit of an expensive gimmick – albeit one that looks really cool! (I think I should win them to test their claims! 😉 )
I will not be buying these unless they are the same price or only slightly more than regular shoes. To me comfort and reduced numbness are the most important. I can see the carbon frame around the shoes would be worth some dollars but, I have heard the watts saving ringing in my ears year after year. Just think, special lube a few watts here, ceramic bearings on the derailleur 15 watts here, new enve wheels another 15 watts here, even now aero cycle computers another few watts + all the other little add ons you can buy, add this all together and we have wattage saved approaching 50watts! With all these "claimed" savings. Really GCN, it is all pie in the sky. In the real world the bikes are very even, and it come down to three things. Wattage output of the rider, aero position of the rider (Body) and weight of the rider. THAT is it guys! Plus Mavic wheels are the most overpriced wheels for the dollars, their hubs are really poor. So I wouldn’t be referencing their wheels as a standard. Sorry to be negative but these are the facts.
This is cheap mate, if you compare this with lady’s handbag……..
That is $250.00 a watt!
my jordan cost more
The shoes should be a bike to fit the winner 🏆
So when’s the million subscriber special?
Cool shoes $1000 not so cool . Only way I be able to get a pair at that price is to win the competition lol
Absolutely out of this world technology. I hope comfort does not jeoperdize performance.
thanks GCN for another great video
Am I the only one who snickered when he said "soft upper bootie"?
