This Helmet Saved my Life #shorts

It’s the Specialized Evade: https://bit.ly/2ZtqnH2
The feature that saved my brain is the internal kevlar structure, which is the exposed yellow colored ‘frame’ you can see in the vid. It prevented the helmet from disintegrating on the first impact, and leaving me exposed on the second.

Saw this short video a while back. Really happy you made it out of the crash alive. Looking forward to seeing you back in action soon. Regarding this PSA style video, and the kudos to Specialized: this is great. However, have you considered doing a longer video? You could get together with Mikes Bikes and possibly a rep from Specialized. Go onsite to the shop and do a 8-10 min deeper dive video. Cover stuff like: (1) A helmet saved my life (show the video clip from the rider behind you); (2) emphaisze that any certified helmet, worn properly (tight strap), would have also done the job; (3) discuss what higher end helmets offer (lower weight, better cooling or aerodynamics, improved style, etc). Would be a win-win for everyone.

Glad you’re ok man!. Helmets are essential for a cycle even though they aren’t really flattering when you have it on but I would rather look like a duffus than be brain dead or dead full stop!, a good friend of mine back in the 90’s was just casually riding his bike in the city centre without a helmet and the front end washed out under him which led to him sliding and slamming his head off the curb😱,needless to say he died after fighting for his life for 2 weeks on a life support machine and his parents had to switch it off. Pls be safe guys. Great awareness video man👌,great job👏.

Helmets cost less that skull reconstruction

  4. Kk Legend_356 on December 20, 2022 at 1:22 am

Imagine if the there was a cheap helmet insted of this

  5. NKSlick on December 20, 2022 at 1:22 am

    Is it MIPS?

  6. David Chavez on December 20, 2022 at 1:23 am

I thwacked my head a couple times this year, helmets are a life saver for sure, without it I’d probably be lights out right now. Also, I wear gloves cause the body rash is manageable but the hand rash sucks.

  7. Bob Latkey on December 20, 2022 at 1:24 am

Looks like you can totally reuse the helmet too!

  8. MTF Lieutenant on December 20, 2022 at 1:25 am

Hope you’re okay, Gordon Freeman, although your HEV suit would be more protective

  9. Fox Trainer on December 20, 2022 at 1:27 am

Feet injuries are much more common but harder to solve so let’s just ignore those

  10. Steve.o on December 20, 2022 at 1:27 am

I hate seeing cyclist, and motorcyclists not wearing a helmet. Ive had my skull saved so many times cause of a helmet. Better to break a $200 helmet, then get a $20,000 hospital bill, or a $14,000 funeral. Even a cheap helmet will save your life, like the $20 helmets at wal-mart. Crappy protection is better, then no protection.

I use the Specialized Tactic 4 for mountain biking and road riding. Great helmets!

  16. Blyat on December 20, 2022 at 1:31 am

I cracked my first helmet snowboarding last year. A wreck like that will put the fear of god into you. I was shook for weeks thinking of what would’ve happened if I wasn’t wearing a helmet.

  17. R3ypolanco on December 20, 2022 at 1:31 am

    God bless man be safe😮‍💨🙏🏽

  18. Mark Owsley on December 20, 2022 at 1:31 am

Years ago I wore the original Giro helmet. The sound I remember most from my bad bike accident is the styrofoam shattering when I hit the ground. I still get chills thinking about what if that was my head making the sound.

  19. mimp on December 20, 2022 at 1:33 am

No, I’m gonna be cool and not wear a helmet! 💪💪💪

  20. ziggy marley on December 20, 2022 at 1:35 am

Don’t soften the blow with your head duh

  21. Flaggyt on December 20, 2022 at 1:36 am

If you weren’t wearing a helmet you were going much slower around corners and probably wouldn’t have fallen at all.

    🙂

And is it for safety or compliance with the law? If it is for safety, forget these foam toys and where a small motorcycle helmet. Not as pretty but much safer.

  22. First Name Last Name on December 20, 2022 at 1:36 am

Polystyrene-based helmets protect by absorbing the energy of the impact through compressing the polystyrene. In a serious accident, polystyrene helmets tend to break into pieces. If the polystyrene has broken into pieces but not compressed, it has failed to work as intended.

  23. Onion Chan on December 20, 2022 at 1:37 am

My Helmet saved my life aswell, I almost hit my head on a sharp stone (well not really sharp but it’s pointy), luckily I had my helmet on or I would’ve been a goner

  24. Neander Taler on December 20, 2022 at 1:40 am

Did he get a concussion though?

  25. InCahoots on December 20, 2022 at 1:44 am

I believe this helmet ranked pretty well on the Virginia Tech helmet test

  26. elmast3r13 on December 20, 2022 at 1:45 am

Good thing youre safe bro. However, studies show that only 20% of bike crashes affect the head and only some of those crashes are severe. While I’ll admit those aren’t good odds, biking is also all about feeling the air flowing through your head and enjoying the moment. For commuters and joyriders helmets should not be obligatory. It is up to the municipalities and the government to improve infrastructure and distribute back some vital roadspace to cyclists and pedestrians so we may all enjoy biking in safety (instead of obligating cyclist to wear protective gear and then doing nothing about this car centric hellscapes of cities we have here in Canada.) Shout-out to r/fuckcars

  27. Darth Latitude on December 20, 2022 at 1:45 am

I got hit by a car (albeit at a slow speed) at the end of 4th grade and I hit the top of my head. If I wasn’t wearing a helmet I would probably either be a vegetable or have brain damage

  28. Trificul Life on December 20, 2022 at 1:46 am

Helmets are made for a reason, and this is continous proof why, glad u are good man*

  29. quenar on December 20, 2022 at 1:48 am

    Clavicle ok?

  30. Julian Kurt on December 20, 2022 at 1:48 am

I got hit by a car today. Im fine but my bike is sadly probably totaled 😞

  31. Airhog Glider on December 20, 2022 at 1:50 am

One might say that the helmet had a few sweet spots that absorbed the polarizing impacts.

  32. lakaumbucha on December 20, 2022 at 1:50 am

A bike helmet saved my life.
    I always wear one.
For the next time I smash my head.
I tell people I cracked my head on the river.
But it was really Van Raalte ave not the river ave.
Why do you always act this or that?
Cracked my head on the river.
I really hate crashing my bicycle.
It’s good that you’re not dead.

  33. Dennis Durante on December 20, 2022 at 1:53 am

Specialized saved my melon before too. I stand by them and don’t use anything else.

  34. lmNotTryHard on December 20, 2022 at 1:54 am

    I’m glad you’re okay.

  35. Jsdpatters on December 20, 2022 at 1:55 am

Imagine that. A helmet saved someone’s life

  36. Stryker on December 20, 2022 at 1:57 am

When I crashed my bike, my strap un buckled and went into the bone next to my eye. Miracle I’m not blind, but I’ll still wear a helmet.

  37. Bernardberben on December 20, 2022 at 2:01 am

I’ll never understand people who don’t wear helmets. They think they won’t crash. A old man told me a few years back to always wear a helmet because he busted his head open when he was a kid. He was just riding around normally and fell.

  38. Mohsin Rasul on December 20, 2022 at 2:02 am

    Was it a mips helmet?

  40. Steven Fitzgerald on December 20, 2022 at 2:05 am

Great to see you’re doing well now, I got concussion after my bike vs car incident and was amazed at no fewer than three doctors thanking me for wearing a helmet. Unfortunately there are groups of people out there who religiously insist they will not wear helmets because <insert nonsense excuse here>.

  41. David Gillespie on December 20, 2022 at 2:06 am

    Glad you’re ok, heal quick!

  42. Team Quality on December 20, 2022 at 2:07 am

I use the exact same model
Doffrent color only im happy to know i picked the right helmet

  43. Xavier Hulbert on December 20, 2022 at 2:08 am

You, sir, are one of the best advertisements for people to wear your helmet I’ve ever seen. How many people would have thought a curb is something you should protect yourself from when riding? Goes to show that there is ALWAYS something out there to hurt you. Wear a helmet when riding!

  44. Andrew Rodriguez on December 20, 2022 at 2:08 am

Lol how do u even crash?😂

  45. Kegan VanSickle on December 20, 2022 at 2:08 am

Was this helmet mips equipped? I did not see the lining.

  46. John Robson on December 20, 2022 at 2:13 am

Or maybe it encouraged you ride too fast…. At least there is actually some crushing (which is the helmet doing it’s job, not the cracking)

  47. Fox Trainer on December 20, 2022 at 2:13 am

Never in my life will I pedal faster just to make other bikers comfortable. I will pedal at a slow pace no matter what the destination is.

  48. NEW LIFE on December 20, 2022 at 2:14 am

    I need this helmet

  49. benjamin Ballos on December 20, 2022 at 2:18 am
