THE BMX TIRE 101

THE BMX TIRE 101

For today’s Tech Thursday we cover everything you need to know about BMX Tires in this weeks BMX Tire 101!

The 4 main components of a tire are The Tread, The Sidewall, The Body and the bead. The tire bead can either be steal or kevlar (non folding vs folding tires), and the sidewall and tread are the main things that differentiate the vast majority of tires. Whether its a dirt, street, park, vert or flatland tire they can all be used on any terrain, but they all do excel at one certain area.

For this particular video we looked at the Fit FAF, Cult Vans, Cult AK, BSD Alex “Donnasqueak” Donnachie, Stranger Ballast, Primo Steve Churchil, KHE MAC 2, and Merritt Option tires.

Hope you enjoyed this video!

  9. bmxriderforlife1234 on July 18, 2019 at 12:35 am

there are both lighter tires and tires with higher psi ratings.

    khe just did it first.

they are also like the nicest weight weenie tire if you have money to spend.

super grippy, fast rolling, because of how thin they are they have some give, at like 90psi they are perfect in the front. 110 in the rear.

but dirt tires are where its at. get one with a smooth center line for street and just enough traction for dirt, the side knobs help for dirt, and can help for park with foot jams. they last longer. the extra side knobs can also protect your sidewalls during grinds.

personally used to ride a we the people gripping ot feelin folding tire(now they only have wire beads) and an eclat command tire in the front. the aitken tire is a good alternative.

the old shadow tires, in the folding option were a favorite rear tire.

rocking a good dirt/park tire up front can be helpful if you ever randomly decide to go dirt jumping.

i find slicks only really come in handy if you run really high tire pressure and ride lots of concrete parks.

Quick question idk how fast youre going to get this but anyways, I put my back tire on backwards and didnt realize it until the chain was full on. Is it something I really need to worry about a whole lot or do you think itll be fine. I’m not a serious rider I just like to ride it to and from work and sometimes to the liquor store and what not, do a few gap and mannies or whatever but i dont really do like spin tricks since i cant fakie for the life of me

  33. Rory O'Toole on July 18, 2019 at 1:01 am

I bought my bike with 2.3 inch wide tires on it. Am i able to put 2.4 inch tires on it ?

  34. Złośliwy Szaczkus on July 18, 2019 at 1:01 am

Why do people ride 2.4" tires in back or in general? If I understood correctly thick tires bring more benefits, so yeah. I haven’t ridden a tire wider than 2.25" so I dunno how it feels, I think I’ll stay with about 1.9 in back and 2.2 in front.
