28/9 is the best. Has top end and low end.

Thank you for all the bmx content!!! They should make phu a playable character in the next bmx game

  4. swerve on December 27, 2022 at 1:20 am

My kluncker has a 46 in the front and unsure in the back but I’m looking to see it I can put a 36 tooth on the front but don’t know if It’ll help pick the wheel up a little more, the size on the wheels are 26s I believe,it’s been broken for a minute and can’t quite remember

  5. whosjohndonut on December 27, 2022 at 1:21 am

So I bought a 30t NWO sprocket. This would be ok on my cult 6 cruiser? It comes with a 10t cassette hub. Thanks

  6. CHXRNVKHA on December 27, 2022 at 1:22 am

idk what ratio i have but its 28 to 12 threaded type

  7. ponyboy c on December 27, 2022 at 1:22 am

32/12 was the standard before 25/9

  8. Stu West on December 27, 2022 at 1:23 am

This guy doesn’t even know the difference from radius and circumference. He made some other mistakes as well.
I recommend a script and maybe some research next time.

  9. xvk3 Mich ViridianIsland on December 27, 2022 at 1:24 am

Awesome video. I’m sticking with my 20" wheels though. Currently running 11/30 upgraded from a 9/25.

  10. Vekurus on December 27, 2022 at 1:25 am

180mm, 45tooth – It was like having a bigblock. Out of my "crew", not even the dude with the 12speed could catch me.

  11. steves00010 on December 27, 2022 at 1:25 am

Guilty! I over thunk this at first 2 but I have friends that have different set ups but great demo to illustrate the point.

  12. Ja aJ on December 27, 2022 at 1:27 am

Tyre size, rim size, sprocket ratios, crank arm length and the riders strength all come into play when choosing the right set up

  13. Vail Skate Supply on December 27, 2022 at 1:27 am

Divide the front teeth (25) by back teeth (9)=27.77777778. Then multiply by the wheel diameter (20)= 55.55555.
    That’s gear inches. So the bike should roll about 55 inches per crank revolution. But I think the 29ers are geared more like a 28×9 20 inch. 36t16t=2.25 x29 = 65.25 gear inches or 28t9t=3.11111 x 20 = 62.2222- gear inches. I’d probably run a 32×16 if I had a 29er because it’s hilly where I live.

  14. JDubRetro on December 27, 2022 at 1:28 am

Basically the engineers are smarter then us.

  15. Francis Manuel on December 27, 2022 at 1:29 am

My 20inch bmx runs a 28t sprocket and 12t freewheel is it same on 25×9 gearing?

  16. David Maerz on December 27, 2022 at 1:30 am

Front gear tooth number divided by rear gear tooth number times tire size equals the gear inches . 25 divided by 9 x 20 equals 55.5 gear inches. Old school 44 divided by 16 x 20=55. This is the gear inch ratio you are lookin for, give or take a few inches or fractions of an inch. So on a 29 inch tire you could go 33 divided by 17 x 29 = 56.2. Good enough. Or 30 divided by 16 x 29 = 54.3 gear inches. It’s essentially the same as the 25/9 on a 20 inch tire. I shoot for anywhere between 54- 58 gear inches. Easy peasy. I run 30/13 on my 24" S&M Dirtbike which works out to 55.4 gear inches. A higher gear inch number will give you more top end speed with less bottom end torque. And the reverse goes with a lower gear inch number. It all depends on your leg strength and spinning skills. If you like to spin hard go with 53/54. If you love top end speed and like to "chop wood" go around 57/58. Hope this helps.

    It’s all math…

  19. Bart Pangilinan on December 27, 2022 at 1:34 am

    It’s funny. In 1984 when I was 14 I used a 44-13 with a 165 crank.

  20. Jason Marshall on December 27, 2022 at 1:35 am

    Wah wah wahhhh

  21. Jessica Eldridge on December 27, 2022 at 1:36 am

That’s ball … my wheelie bike has 25 to 9 … and its a 26 its much better then standard

I like the owner of this bike shop,,,straight up info

  24. Sixto Flores on December 27, 2022 at 1:41 am

Dude; does your shop ship abroad? I want to put together a rigid fork DJ/FGFS/tracklocross hybrid (I know It may not working out but then I’d just swap out a couple of parts to turn it into either) but I’m having a hard getting the parts I need to do so!

  25. Weareallbeingwatched on December 27, 2022 at 1:43 am

You want to be hitting the quickest reps you can push at about 28mph. Depends on your legs, I’m long legged, rather than a "spinner". Do an exercise bike power meter, and find your peak power reps on full sprint, then get out your calculator. That ain’t for BMX, that’s for a single speed rider, but it’s my method.

  26. Joseph Bouwman on December 27, 2022 at 1:45 am

Big ripper running 33 sprocket with a 16 freewheel. Perfect set up. Had a Sunday High C with the stock 30 sprocket/13 freewheel. Loved how it felt compared to the big ripper. Now I’m back on my ripper and I went to a really similar gear set (33/16)

Perfect for wheelies, not too little to rip it around town at a good pace. Idk why I don’t see 33/16 more often

  27. Scott Bradford on December 27, 2022 at 1:46 am

33 front 9 back will have u cookin. Trust

  28. JEllis on December 27, 2022 at 1:47 am

I saw the first 29in bike the other day and was dien to try it so bad cuz I want one… dude said no lol. I was so bummed I offered for him to hold all my shit just a circle to feel it and nothing! lol

  33. Dennis Llewellyn on December 27, 2022 at 1:51 am

i need 6:1 (60/10) ratio before it hits my 20" solid carbon fiber wheel. i am 5′ 6.75" tall and 200 lbs lean. i go 60 mph on my early1980’s huffy pro thunder. Yup i got the crank for the leverage baby. only problem is , i need stronger material strength and use a single piece crank because i snap chains, strip out parts, and bend pedals everywhere. 🙂 Now it got rusted so need a new frame built. Going carbon aluminum and/or chromoly. i build my own gears because there is too much flex inherent in standard bicycle gears. i have to use a motorcycle chain. i am thinking of converting to a transmission without chain.

  34. LilNickSkirt on December 27, 2022 at 1:56 am

what would be a similar feel to a 28-9 but with a 33 tooth sprocket , both have 20in wheels?

  35. mike vida on December 27, 2022 at 1:58 am

i just switched from 25/9 to 30/9 on a 20" bmx, so much better.

  36. Alex Bleed on December 27, 2022 at 2:02 am

Thanks for the vids wish I had bmx shop in my area

  37. Braylin wright on December 27, 2022 at 2:05 am

Front gear divided by rear times wheel size will give the gear ratio

  38. Madurspece Madurspecen on December 27, 2022 at 2:06 am

I had no clue they felt the same. That makes me wanna get a 29” now!

  39. Family Engineering on December 27, 2022 at 2:07 am

    Circumference not diameter

    Phu do you!

  42. Think Pad on December 27, 2022 at 2:09 am

I love this video and I’m a mountain biker. i have legs that can climb and do things that most can not do and am 210 pounds . just lost 50 pounds . I was running a 44/52 road crank on my steel full suspension KHS with double triple RST on it. yet i could still ride with the fellas and gals and always passed them all on the ride home on the roads be it down hill or up. gear ratios are specific to the person pedaling. just because some tall guy says a 180mm crank is better for him does not mean it is good for another tall guy or gal. and microdrive drove me insane in the early to mid 90’s

  43. Chris Parker on December 27, 2022 at 2:10 am

Bruh, you got tweakers messaging people as you, I got 2 different ones..

Great video ! Ps .. what you’re wearing are called (flip flops🩴) not sandals 👌😀

  45. Karlo Balazuela on December 27, 2022 at 2:12 am

Phu, that is circumference. The circular measurement of the circle.
Diameter is the distance if the two farthest distance of a circle when cut into half.

  46. Vail Skate Supply on December 27, 2022 at 2:14 am

    44×16 baby!

  47. Gabriel Tone on December 27, 2022 at 2:14 am

I have a 26" Kink Drifter stock is a 25T/10T, should I change my gearing?

  48. c s j on December 27, 2022 at 2:15 am

Circumference is the distance around the outside perimeter. Diameter is out- side to outside, through the axle. Radius being half of the diameter or outside to axle

  49. Tucker Francis on December 27, 2022 at 2:15 am

    I have a 20" BMX bike and run 30/9

  50. Chris Lauer on December 27, 2022 at 2:16 am

Sweet vid! That end bit with the small wheels on the 29 was funny af
