*You know she want the…* *0:46* ☺☺
if he says "roughly in the right ballpark" one more time….
Using the centre of the cranks cannot be good, as the actual saddle height depends on crank length.
Since I have some bikes with different crank lengths I always measure from the centre of the pedal spindle
I also have bikes with different types of foot retention, so it is necessary to adjust for that as well
For the .887 measurement… do i measure inseam in the shoes i use (i don’t use cleats)…or measure in sock (no shoes)? Does the .887 factor the thickness of shoe soles?
I have pain at the front of my left knee and at the back of my right knee. Work that one out.
This guy related to David Attenborough by any chance?
why so formal?
i use my waist, for my saddle height (Top of the waist for top of the saddle) and it very accurate nearly straight leg on paddle at 6 o’clock and feet cant touch the ground whiles sitting on the saddle
if you have massive feet you might be able to get your toes on the ground but not your whole foot
always listen to a fitness editor thats not fit .
Hanna needs a Colgate sponsorship…
Great video, well explained! Thank you!
of course saddle height makes a big difference. This advice is spot on.I have found i struggle when my saddle is too low certainly.I had actually never measured it exactly but just did using this methodology and was exactly what he said it should be.Another very important thing is the pedals being big enough for you to get a good contact point. This also made a big difference to my cycling.Unless your locked in i think platform flat pedals with a big surface area are excellent.Handle bar height is also a matter of choice but i prefer mine level with my seat for long journeys. For me the "contact points" are the most important things in cycling.
Question: Why is the saddle height not set from measuring, after calculations, from the ground to the bottom of a level boards lower edge along the line of the seat tube? I find that locating the ‘exact’ center of the crank a bit arbitrary. ( why not the bottom edge of the crank bolt better?) Yes I realize this is nit-picking, but we are talking about proper fit and the difference between the center and the bottom edge might equal 1c. That aside, nice presentation.
Has this guy got a saddle post up is butt the way he talks
in what unit did you take that measurement?
Some sources say, inseam x 0.88, some others say inseam x 0.885, now you say inseam x 0.887. The differences in saddle height obtained between one and another vary as much as more than half a centimeter ,wich is a noticeable amount!! On the other hand you say that is the distance between the bottom braket and the top of the saddle, but where is the top of the saddle?? The middle of it? A certain point of it (let´s say where its widht is 8 cms) ?? The distance measured in paralel to vertical tube of the bike? If the saddle is not flat where is the top of it?? Again, the distance could vary as much as another half centimeter. Please try to clarify more…
I can see imediately that he has her saddle set too high, but a good 1/4inch.
It will cause to neck pain back side, when look straight while a longride.
No problem. Bicycle RUSSIA – the BEST!!!

No answer, subsrcibe. Jebem vam mater.
Wow.. ask him about how to use a tissue.. I dare you..
I swear this guy is a narrator in National Geographic talking about insects or some sort, as a part time job.
So what about 175mm 0r 165mm crank arms.
I’m 115% of inseam. Measured from saddle peddle axle. I’m using heel on peddle on at max stroke, until I can’t lift butt off saddle. Any lower and my replaced knee starts to hurt.
Hi – I’m one of those unfortunate people who’s upper body is long and legs are short. To elaborate, I am exactly 182.25cm in height (5′ 11" & 3/4) however my inside leg is only 29" whereas a more common measurement is around 33" inside at that height. In fact my upper body is so long comparatively that when I sit at a standard dinner table I place three text books under my plate so I don’t need to lean forward, and even then my forearms hover about 4 inches over the dinner table.
How does this affect my seat height? Does a short legged, tall person obey the same rules? How would this impact the lean from my seat to the handlebars? If I set it as normal it would seem to me that I am putting a higher angle in my back and causing possible back strain.
Thanks
I have a regular street bike with 28 inch tires!
I’ve adjusted accordingly but still get upper thigh muscle pain almost immediately.
What suggestions would you have for adjustment?
Not so sure about it…..any practical and basic method to set the right height?🤔
lmao at 2:11 he’s trying to remember what to say
How to know if the saddle height is good enough to not to have any back problems?
There are several differences about the information in this video and the usual about the same matter. Usually the factor is .883 instead of .887 – and must be applied minus 4mm because of today pedal systems; knee angle refered as roughly 150º is mentioned elsewhere that must be, ideally, as 141º to men and 142º to women. In line with what the bike fitter Steve Hogg advises which are a reference in cycling fitting.
You can’t be “ In the right ball park”. You can only be “In the ball park”.🙄
What goes on in the wrong ballpark?
Great effort guys. However, this guy is a bit "health and safety" VHS like, no offence. Can we have some charisma and a few jokes please
O
On a group ride at a level where I was just barely able to hang, the ride leader had a rather more crude way of telling me my saddle height was too low
Complete nonsense and bullshit.
What you are basically looking for is the correct power distribution of you leg.
So what you are looking for is to first place your click pedal plates correct onto your shoe in such a way that the pressure point of the force vector is in the middle of the ball of your foot. So the middle of the plate should be fixed at the middle position of the ball of your foot.
Next up is to always keep your foot level (horizontal) when pushing the pedal down. Crank should be horizontal also so the highest power you can produce is delivered with the largest horizontal distance from the center of rotation of the crank (not of the pedal)
Then the lowest bulge on your knee should be vertical above the middel of the ball of your foot.
Then you still have to take into account the horizontal setting of the saddle. So basically the position of your knee and ball of your foot are the most important here. Thats why saddle height is only important to get to this position in which your power distribution is optimized to your maximum power distribution.
The result for most other ride positions will be optimized so you are going faster with the same power or you can keep up with a lesser physical fitness with people who cycle more often but with the wrong position.
Friend,
Everything goes smoother and better with Imperial Units. Don’t be a Metric Head!
…..RVM45
This was quite helpful, but does frame size also matter – coz seat height and back angle must compliment? else we may get back pain?
Can you guide on that front also…thanks.
Does different height saddle used different Muscles to a different degree. It feels like lower saddle uses more quads and higher, more gluts and hammies. Is that right?
What’s the best saddle-position on a hybrid-bike to make long and fast as possible trips please?thanx in advance… 🙂
question about the inseam method–is the inseam measured in centimeters? would the multipliying by 0.887 work with inches?
OK, I have set my saddle height…… But it seams that I can’t keep the seat from slipping down, I tightend the lock as hard as I could….. Still slips…..
Why did she giggle at 0:46 while holding the ruler.
why not just start the video with "go to a professional bike fitter" and leave it there – saving 3 minutes of unnecessary video.
Thanks for the expert advice.
id like my seat to be lower then what most people say because i dont like putting so much weight on the handlebars, i wish there was a way to raise my handlebars and keep the seat at the recommended level. or maybe someone sells handlebars that fit my needs
thanks for the tips, @cycling Weekly. anyways, can you gives us some details on what the number 0.887 means?
kudos
