Old Shimano Mountain Bike shifter replacement
Installing a new Shimano model SL M310 7R shifter onto an older Diamond Back mountain bike. The bike had an older 200GS 7 speed group with the older rapid fire type shifter. Typically I’ll refurbish the shifter, but in this case, the bicycle owner wanted to replace the shifter with newer style replacement.

is not there any problem about compatibility , l have old shimano alivo sysytem 3×7 , ı think it is from 1997 , can ı use sl m315 shifter ?
I’m in the process of installing a 7 speed trigger shifter on my son’s bike to replace the twist one. Can I re-route the new cable back into the old cable housing or do I need to get new housing? Thanks for sharing the video.

Sir, i have the same shifter, and likely to change that too. So I see that old rear derailluer doesnt have any effect to the new shifter as long match with same shifter speed right? (In this case 7 speed) Im afraid if I bought the item already and cannot be used. Thank You in advance.

I have a mongoose remix 20 inch and the grub screw won’t turn I got the shifter cover off and the grip I just can’t shift with this black thing that stayed on. I don’t know how to get it off. What do you suggest doing?
wow, okay well, I just purchased that Shimano Altus shifter. I didn’t know the gear indicator window went under the brake lever (my current one goes above the brake lever), also how the hell are you supposed to downshift do you reach in between the brake lever and handle bar to hit the downshift lever? If that’s how it operates then I’m definitely going to return it and get something else because that’s just stupid, with my current shifter you use your thumb to upshift and down shift and I like it that way.
Do you count the gears or where did you order it from

How come nobody shows how to thread the cable back to the derailleur? The shift lever comes with a bare cable. You don’t run the bare cable back to the derailleur, do you?
