My choice for a mountain bike saddle

My choice for a mountain bike saddle

My choice came down to picking out a few saddles out of an ocean of saddles online. Just picked out 3 that I though would be good choices based on price, shape and one with extra layer of padding for comfort. I wanted to around to 30 to$45 price range so that helped me to narrow my selection a bit. I am 46 y.o., 6 foot, 195lbs, ride a mix of street/trails/city, jumping up and down curbs, riding over roots/stairs/ledges/drop-offs within reasonable size. My bike is the 2016 Specialized FSR Stumpjumper bought new in 2017 with the large frame size and 650B fattie wheels. Love the wheel choice and component value of the Stumpjumper FSR.

Correction SDG Aliso saddle under $30 bucks.

Rode with the SDG Aliso for another day and came to the final conclusion that the Trailmaster saddle was just a bit superior in comfort for my butt. TM is the one I’m sticking with. Hope this helps some to make better/quicker seat choice.

How do you guys in America buy something use it for weeks and are able to return it? In Australia you have no chance in doing that.

Thanks for the saddle review! I live in Ft Worth and have been pricing the TM at local shops and on Amazon and they are $85-$95…where did you get yours for $40? Thanks again.

Shorts. Buy good road shorts with 10-12 panel and MTB shorts without padding. Wear together. Best combination. Road shorts are much better in terms of padding and fit then padded MTB. I removed padded part from my MTB Endura shorts. It was very bad quality comparing to my padded road shorts.
If you never did it then go to LBS and ask to measure your sit bones. Size is very important. I used to ride 130 and it was pain pain pain. Now I ride 143 and can spend 3-4 hours on the bike without any discomfort.. Amount of padding on the saddle especially on longer rides doesn’t help at all.
I am curios what was original saddle on your bike? Phenom? In my opinion it is one of the best saddles for almost every type of bike.
Selle SMP and Fabric cell elite radius might work for you. Both saddles are reasonably priced with generous padding if it is your thing.
BTW a lot of LBS’s have special trail saddles you can rent for few weeks. Mine take $80 deposit for 2 month period that should be used toward buying a new saddle. During that time I can try unlimited amount of saddles they have available.
Specialized actually offer exchange and refund program for saddles. Send them an email.

Just watched your video. I know this video is older but I was wondering if you are still riding the same bike and how has the saddle been working for you long term?
