Mountain biking for beginners, what you need to buy. Cannondale Trail Sl 29er

Let me start of by saying I am not a professional. I just wanted to put together a quick video showing what I purchased along with my new bike. Some of the added costs so a new biker could budget it in if need be. Hopefully this will help out. I also hope you fall in love with the sport as I have, I wish I started years ago.

I disagree with the backpack as I think there cumbersome and hinder your ability to ride but that’s just my opinion and I guess it’s personal opinion

Bad advise on the clippless peddles. Need to get your skills up before you clip in. Bunny hoping and other skills needs to be learnt the right way.

Went on my first ride for probably ten years. 3-4 hours of both trails and road. I didn’t wear gloves. I wish I wore gloves.

I feel everyone overestimates what you need to get into mountain biking
    Bike
    Pump
    Helmet
(Optional)small backpack to hold phone, bottle ext.

  18. Castle on July 7, 2019 at 11:31 pm

  19. Gillysaurxx on July 7, 2019 at 11:33 pm

  20. gingaleanda on July 7, 2019 at 11:34 pm

  21. Christy K on July 7, 2019 at 11:35 pm

Thanks for the info! My new canondale is arriving this week! ☺️ I’m going to try to keep the gear to a minimum since it’s already hot in AL and I’m very heat sensitive. But I think I’ll take your suggestion about the shin guards.

  22. MIXRZ on July 7, 2019 at 11:37 pm

I would get knee pads more than shin guards and you need to drop kick who ever told u to get the clip less pedals

Also I don’t mean to be adversely opinionated about hillbillies because I definitely am 1I just wouldn’t always trust my opinion as a hillbilly when it comes to safety haha

Flats are much better for beginners and pros, flats for life!

  28. Ian Murphy 47 on July 7, 2019 at 11:40 pm

Ok buddy cliples pedals don’t have a clip cliples pedals have no clip

  29. Alex lee on July 7, 2019 at 11:43 pm

4:53 I get it happens to everyone at some point but if you get a decent pair of flat pedals with good screws for grip you don’t often get it to be honest.

  39. Steven Rogers on July 7, 2019 at 11:59 pm

Thank you for your video I am just Thinking about getting into mountain biking again. I took it up about 20 years ago I purchased a bike and some equipment And I went on a few rides Then shortly after that my wife Informed me she was pregnant. An unexpected pregnancy took Up most of my free time for quite some time after that. Anyway I still have my original bike which is still in almost perfect condition It is a little outdated which doesn’t bother me but the fact it has regular Pole breaks in not disgrace concerns me in a wonder if you think that is a real serious issue. I think there are probably other people I could ask in other Web pages I could go on but your honesty and sincerity Made me want to ask you and I feel I would have more respect for your opinion Then some other whiskey driven hillbilly opinion. Thanks again I look forward to more videos And hopefully your opinion on the brakes Sincerely Steven Rogers

    I didn’t see any tools or a repair kit…

  42. jack on July 8, 2019 at 12:00 am

Those shin guards fuck8ng save you when you crash. My opinion you should get another pair of shin or knee pads after they wear out. Good video tho

  43. Khoddiey - Rene Clark on July 8, 2019 at 12:01 am

I am huge on safety so would a full face helmet with goggles be better then a regular helmet

  44. Pibbles 'n Bits on July 8, 2019 at 12:02 am

How did this guy forget the kickstand? Every beginner rider needs one.

  45. Zupez on July 8, 2019 at 12:03 am

I haven’t rode a bike for probably around 8 years or so and am interesting in getting into MTB, any beginner tips like how/where to buy equipment, recommended bike, gloves, helmet, bike sizing etc. Would be greatly appreciated!

  46. Arve Udø on July 8, 2019 at 12:03 am

I never thought about first aid kit i the backpack. Thanks man.

  47. Dank Emu on July 8, 2019 at 12:04 am

Ok I’ve been biking for years giant jumps and everything. I never bought shin guards 😂 they’re a total waste of money and if you slip your foot and you get cut deal with it and save the flippen money. In my opinion all beginners should use platform pedals so if you fall you can put your foot out fast without having to shift your foot around.

  49. Egle on July 8, 2019 at 12:05 am

If you are new to mountain biking 1 you do not need pads really unless you’re doing downhill at a park and 2 DO NOT GET CLIP PEDALS when you are a beginner it will develop really bad habits and you won’t be able to learn skills like bunny hopping right with clips and unless you are great at balancing then you WILL fall over several times and it will hurt untill you get used to them

  50. viperdemonz jenkins on July 8, 2019 at 12:06 am

bike, helmet, water bottle, fingerless gloves, eyewear, air pump, extra tubes, good backpack with a waist strap, bike tools. do not invest in clipless from start, if later after you get used to the bike you think maybe it is worth it find a way to test clipless without spending the cash for them, then make the decision on it.
