If going on flat roads, then would you not use the highest gear meaning gear 2 or 3 in the front chain ring and gear 1 on the back casette but here you are saying to use something like gear 8? Going fast or riding on flat road: Gear 3(front chain ring) and Gear 1(Back casette) or Going slow or hill climbing: Gear 1(front chain ring) and Gear 11(Back casette)
