In order to service and fine-tune the front derailleur, we need to first understand how it works. This video will explain the function of each component that makes up the front derailleur system, including the cage, barrel adjuster, limit screws, and index shifter.

    when the cable on the front derailleur snapped, i cut the cable so it won’t poke through my legs and to make me go faster i put a rock in between the pivot where it shifts. i was able to use the second gear in the front, it got me home fast and quickly.

    had to replace a broken rear derailleur cable and had never done either front or rear adjustments before, the Park Tool videos are great, awesome overlay graphics to show how the mechanisms are supposed to move and align, great job! I can add derailleur tune-ups to my repairs resume, thanks

    There is no barrel adjuster on my bike.. How can I adjust the cable length in this case? how does it change the derailleur cable tension adjustment? 🙁 thank you

    definently subscribing,helped to understand it,cuz when im on higher gear, the chain touches the derailleur and slowly cuts the derailleur , and thats how i broke my last bike, but now its all good on the new, i highly recommend this channel, it gets straight to the point and teaches really whel and its easy to understand with all of those virtual animations,thanks.     That was so clear and concise! A video explaining the mechanism so clearly sure goes a longer way than a long video just attacking the adjustment points with no clear reasoning.
