Double Drivetrain Fixed Gear – 2x Freewheels

Double Drivetrain Fixed Gear – 2x Freewheels

So I had this random idea the other day, it was to fit two drivetrains on two freewheels to see if it turned fixed. I had no idea if it would work or not but was keen to try it out anyway. Turns out it works! It looks weird, weighs more and is noisier, so no real benefits but an interesting experiment for me nonetheless. Let me know if any of you have ever done this!

    but why? BECAUSE SCIENCE !

  3. Lor27Lor on March 16, 2023 at 5:43 am

Okay but could it be possible to gear both of them with rear derailleur? Out of curiosity more than anything, but the ability to change your gear for both reversing and going forward.

Weird idea with really no benefit, but still cool looking. I could definitely see a passersby with no cycling knowledge, thinking you have two speeds or that you can go twice as fast lol.

Saw a Chinese video a few months ago of a guy doing this.

  6. Time Travel Films on March 16, 2023 at 5:45 am

You could put a lot more torque through the cranks without the fear of a chain snapping.

Thought my bike was cursed for running 46/17 singlespeed

Make the pedals independent on each side so they’re not connected traditionally but on their own bearing. You could have both pedals at the top or bottom. That’d be cool. Pedal with one leg while the other doesn’t pedal or rotate, that’d be tits.

  11. WileBGingy on March 16, 2023 at 5:47 am

ok ok evey one understands why not to do this
BUT maybe a reason why to do it.
Try making your reverse gearing closer to 1-1
    will this help with braking?
well what kind of effects can you create!!!

dude i had the same idea extacly 2 weeks ago and now it pops up randomly on my feed….. they are listening ^^

  13. eli on March 16, 2023 at 5:50 am

This video got me thinking and if you used a left LHD BMX crank and a right RHD BMX crank then you wouldn’t have the problem of the pedal backing off.

    Double rainbows and chains!

  17. koos42 on March 16, 2023 at 5:52 am

You have to make it so it has an easier gear ratio in reverse, it would mean easier braking!

  18. Pillowcase on March 16, 2023 at 5:52 am

    Looks cool, at least.

  19. Marcus on March 16, 2023 at 5:54 am

The strange part to highlight on this would be the clicking when you have a fixed drivetrain imo

  20. MOTORBIKE MONKEY on March 16, 2023 at 5:59 am

On the one pedal you could drill a hole where the pedal threads in, then tap the some threads and insert a bolt to lock the pedal i n place.

  21. D. Christian Rathjens on March 16, 2023 at 6:00 am

ATTENTION: right side pedal mounted on left side will not hold. It will destroy the thread on the long run very ugly. Can say from experience on a tandem.

Great experiment!! 🔥 May I know what size your bottom bracket my brother?

  23. CJ Coffey on March 16, 2023 at 6:02 am

I wonder what a mixed ratio setup would do. Maybe let you have different ratios forward vs backwards?

  28. Kowinaida on March 16, 2023 at 6:06 am

Next time you have an idea leave it in your head.

  29. Aikiwolfie on March 16, 2023 at 6:07 am

Why not just get a hub with a proper fixed gear? The whole ethos of the fixie is simplicity.

  30. Yuuup on March 16, 2023 at 6:08 am

Now do a double freecoaster. You could choose to pedal either direction, but could conceivably coast either direction as well.

  31. Milfie on March 16, 2023 at 6:08 am

Used to have something similar on my Old specialized brand bmx. both hub sides had threads on them, so i fitted an additional sprocket + left hand drive freewheel on.
fixed all my issues with chainstrech and "uneven" paddlepressure

  32. XRAY on March 16, 2023 at 6:09 am

I was gonna say "Why?" but I’ve done dumber things myself. 🙂

what would be cool if you could on a bmx have one chain and sprocket but be able to disengage the ratchet pawls by like a dropper post lever and maybe engage a second set of pawls to be able to pedal backwards

  38. AshokA on March 16, 2023 at 6:21 am

Nice Try! I hope this set up goes well with Mid Drive Motor without Peddles. Keep It Up Bro!

  39. Richard Perry on March 16, 2023 at 6:22 am

Very silly – if you want a fixed wheel just fit a fixed rear sprocket. Why have to carry an extra chainwheel and a second chain that only gets used in reverse or gets stressed if you try to stop peddling while on the move??

  40. Dogga on March 16, 2023 at 6:23 am

Hey dude have you ever fixied a healing 10 speed?

  41. Михаил Захаров on March 16, 2023 at 6:25 am

    Cool man

  42. Rick Patrick on March 16, 2023 at 6:28 am

Did you try putting the freewheel on backwards on the left side. In theory it should let both sides drive so you have forward drive and backwards freewheel

  43. Raymond Ashby on March 16, 2023 at 6:29 am

the question is: is this, or is this not literally a TOTAL waste of time. get a job, genius

  44. Chris Ko on March 16, 2023 at 6:31 am

    This idea is bonkers. Subbed.

  45. P Wood on March 16, 2023 at 6:33 am

Since your too dumb to understand gearing its probably best you remove them until you master single cog bicycling. Best not get confused before you start guys. Safety first

  46. Mountain Bike Mike on March 16, 2023 at 6:36 am

If you put a crank arm on the wrong side, be sure to threadlock or tack weld the pedal spindle, or it may unscrew while riding. You can weld a small nut to the crank if it’s steel, and install a grub screw to keep the pedal spindle.
