James, do you know any bike fitter you can recommend in Massachusetts?

  2. Steve on May 23, 2023 at 9:24 am

Did you delete the upsell comments???????

I have found that for walking and running, barefoot shoes have made a hugely positive difference to my life. I am therefore dubious about the need for custom innersoles. I realise that cycling places different forces on your body than walking and running, but I’m not convinced that adding more support to my feet whilst riding will be a benefit to me. Tell me why please, James.

  4. Nick Owens on May 23, 2023 at 9:26 am

I bought G8 insoles on James’s recommendation from another video. Aside from them squeaking in my shoes, they’re amazing. Totally worth the price.

  5. STANDARD H on May 23, 2023 at 9:28 am

James – looking good, my man! T-shirt looks great and the watch game is 🔥 Thank you!!

  6. Dan - Plan D Woodworks on May 23, 2023 at 9:28 am

A wild James spotted in "The North"?!

  7. Neil Partridge on May 23, 2023 at 9:29 am

I’m planning a trip up to see James. No bike shops near me let alone one that can measure/sell decent shoes. May go the whole hog and have a bike fit. My saddle never feels right, so the pressure mapping looks intriguing.

  8. JFomo on May 23, 2023 at 9:31 am

I have that same Selle Italia SLR Boost saddle on my main bike and it great however if I put that same saddle on my indoor trainer bike it becomes uncomfortable. I don’t think it’s the saddles fault but more because my indoor bike is stationary and in a fixed position.
Is there another saddle I can try for an indoor trainer bike? I don’t want to spend hundreds of dollars on one of that platforms that rock the bike side to side.

  9. Saládh Oliviér on May 23, 2023 at 9:33 am

g8 arch supports are worn out pretty quickly, which is a big disappointment in those insole. apart from that they are great.

  10. Mike M on May 23, 2023 at 9:33 am

Im just entering the sport. I dont feel i need the most serious of gear, but i was looking for advice for making my bike fitment better. The solution appears to be money.

  11. glenn oc on May 23, 2023 at 9:34 am

James had 20 years experience Francis in bike fitting? He must be 40 odd then?

  12. Anvil Airsoft TV on May 23, 2023 at 9:35 am

Thanks for the heads up on Fairlight. Looks like they might have what I’m after as a do it all bike.

  13. dahonkie on May 23, 2023 at 9:36 am

Hey Dudes, good to see James Back. I would be really interested in fit in relation to power output. As soon as I leave zone two and do over 250watt all my problems with discomfort go away. I’m a heavy rider at around 95 kg.

  14. Damien Walker on May 23, 2023 at 9:38 am

I use a Tailfin on my commuter. Losing the backpack was the best thing to happen.

  15. SYC on May 23, 2023 at 9:39 am

How many saddles were harmed in the making of this video?

  16. Clay McClendon on May 23, 2023 at 9:40 am

Selle Italia SLR boost is something I have on all my road bikes. I have the gravel version on my gravel bike. Cannot substitute this saddle for anything else. Also Hello from USA! 👋👋

  17. malcontent on May 23, 2023 at 9:41 am

Always love seeing James outside of his shop. That typically means shenanigans are afoot, or at least a copious amounts of foul language.

  18. Thanasis Vidouras on May 23, 2023 at 9:42 am

This video makes me wanna try the SLR BOOST so much.. i have some saddle issues here and there, been messing around with better bib shorts but still….
if it isn’t the saddle, then something must be waaay of in my setup. Greets from Greece

  19. Marco Weber on May 23, 2023 at 9:42 am

The best thing with the G8s? I don’t feel them at all! It feels absolut natural and comfortable. In combination with the Lake’s I don’t wanna use anything else anymore 🦾

  20. Ed Sassler on May 23, 2023 at 9:42 am

On the video about the 10 things you hate, you left out the quality control over the human body – absolutely the worst (it’s what bike fitters call job security). Because bike fitters should understand this, they shouldn’t endorse specific products. Example: The reach of a handlebar is a function of the rider’s torso length, lower back flexibility and arm length. You want enough horizontal adjustment to allow the rider to get their center of gravity over the pedal when there’s enough resistance to hold their body weight, but you also need a hand position for when the rider sits up to move their center of gravity back, when they’re in a lighter gear.

Question for James: As a bike fitter, how much control do you have over the items you stock? I’m a bike fitter in one of the larger shops in the world, getting good products is a [corrupt] political process. We have useless Specialized footbeds because a buyer is getting kickbacks. More to the point, the inventory is the shops – I have very little control over it. The SPD-SL pedals with +4mm spindles look the same as the regular one to your average bike shop employee, so half of them get sold to the wrong person.

Can’t think anything worse that walking into a bike shop and being confronted by this guy

  22. malcontent on May 23, 2023 at 9:43 am

… now we need _James’ _*_10 Most Hated Products_* (although I’m sure he could rattle off way more than 10)

  25. Jaysyate on May 23, 2023 at 9:44 am

Great vid! James is there anybody you know of in Australia who subscribes to your philosophy on bike fitting?

  26. moody edge on May 23, 2023 at 9:44 am

Request Mr James wears a black shirt next time so we can see him 😀

  27. messi9991 on May 23, 2023 at 9:46 am

I have 3 washers on my right pedal to get it more out, came with my Assioma’s with the aim being to ensure the pedal has sufficient clearance to function properly, in the end turned out to be a godsend. Just removing one, much less two, washers and something would immediately feel off.

  28. Mikael H on May 23, 2023 at 9:50 am

@Cade Media You should let James show how to adjust the G8s depending on the footarch, would love to see that.

  29. Meltpo1nt on May 23, 2023 at 9:50 am

How tall is James? He rides a size 51 still? I’m 5’8” if I went with a fair light should I go down to 51cm or stay at 54cm like their site suggests ? Help

  30. Jonathon Doig on May 23, 2023 at 9:51 am

Ah, wise words from BFJ, also I’m sitting here in my new Orange Wild T-shirt 😎🟠👍

    love my Lake shoes

  36. Tim Jacobs on May 23, 2023 at 9:59 am

    I LOVE vids with James!

  37. Tim Irwin on May 23, 2023 at 10:03 am

So what about a shoe for “duck feet”? I have a narrow heel and long, flat toes. Current shoes are old Sidi Dominators with custom footbeds & cork bottoms on the footbeds to take up a bit more space. It’s an OK fit with thicker socks, but feels loose with a summer weight cycling sock unless the straps are cranked down too tight for comfort. Sidi at the time made a narrow version, but my toes were too long / wide for them. Every shoe I’ve tried I end up with a bulge of fabric on the top of the shoe — Shimano, specialized, Garneau, Fizik… Haven’t had a chance to try DMT, Giro, or Bont yet.

  38. Jon Bloomer on May 23, 2023 at 10:04 am

I bought the G8 insoles after seeing an old one of your bike fit vids with James they are fantastic, takes a little while to experiment and find the correct arch size but so easy to clip in and out and once you know it is set and forget

  39. Pratalax on May 23, 2023 at 10:05 am

Whoa whoa whoa, who the fuck is this fake James?! He didn’t mention how i’m considered an imbecile by the ski industry AT ALL. WHAT THE HELL.
    Did he even say "ultimately…"?!

  40. Windom Morris on May 23, 2023 at 10:07 am

i bought a superflow slr on James’ recommendation and it’s so good. I even bought the 145 first but swapped it for the 130. Coming from a brooks cambium c15 its actually so much more comfortable.

  41. Jon Poon on May 23, 2023 at 10:07 am

I do wish Fairlight made 1 or 2 more sizes smaller.

  42. Jonathan Z on May 23, 2023 at 10:07 am

    Lol, it’s a plastic cleat 😂

  43. Robert Muckle on May 23, 2023 at 10:08 am

The ‘Lake’ shoes logo looks like it was hand drawn by a 5yr old! I wonder many others pass on this shoe for that reason alone?🤢

  44. Julian Allen on May 23, 2023 at 10:09 am

Before we get too carried away with thanking Shimano for plastic-free packaging, let’s talk about the size of their shipping boxes and the resources wasted in shipping two pairs of brake pads in a shoe box sized box!!

  45. Good one! on May 23, 2023 at 10:13 am

the tailfin thing is amazing but dam there expensive! would love to get one but not in this economy

  46. andre on May 23, 2023 at 10:15 am

i would love to hear about a bike specialy for 100kg people because a lot of the bikes we talk about they break things with my 104 kg when i use em hard ..

  47. Graham Bell on May 23, 2023 at 10:15 am

Great to see THE MAN 👍 up here at Cade Media HQ in the Toon 👍. Another top info video gents. Cheers for doing 👏

  48. lee dorney on May 23, 2023 at 10:15 am

I own the Lake 332’s and the 238’s and they’re THE BEST shoes EVER, the former are raceyer whereas the latter are more all day all round comfort but either way fantastic!
