Are Pro Bikes Way Different To Yours?

Pro Mountain Bike racers & riders across all disciplines have top-end bikes, we all know that! However, nowadays you can buy some pretty incredible bikes just off the shelf, so whilst Rich Payne was out at the first round of the EWS in Tweed Valley Scotland, He got to thinking – Are Pro bikes any different to yours or his?

I can’t take a man seriously while he’s wearing ugg boots

  5. James Brown on August 4, 2022 at 11:34 pm

Surprised to see so many sponsored bikes running X01 instead of XX1

  6. Oper8or on August 4, 2022 at 11:36 pm

Just curious but what bar ends were they running. I’ve never seen that brand.

  7. Cyclegeek on August 4, 2022 at 11:37 pm

I run a pumptrack setup on the enduro trails, or so my speed would have you believe

  8. fartfish on August 4, 2022 at 11:38 pm

    Food for algorithm 😉

  9. Dan Harvey on August 4, 2022 at 11:39 pm

I might be wrong but i tend to think the biggest differences in standard bikes vs pro bikes would be seen in UCI Downhill, & freeride comps like DarkFest or Rampage, or in Crankworx Slopestyle.. Still cool to see all the details though..

  10. stx333 on August 4, 2022 at 11:39 pm

    Where’s PIVOT??

  11. Dan Buckley on August 4, 2022 at 11:39 pm

So the take-away would be: get the best bike you can afford but put in the time and effort to set it up to work best for you?

  12. JR on August 4, 2022 at 11:39 pm

    Cheers Richiardo

  13. ShaunS47 on August 4, 2022 at 11:41 pm

so back to alloy for rims – nice 😀

  14. TheCervelo100 on August 4, 2022 at 11:42 pm

Enlightening. It does make me laugh when pros say that their frame provider has allowed them to tweak the setup .. I would be aghast if that wasn’t the case

  15. Dwight on August 4, 2022 at 11:44 pm

Idiot saying Is pro bikes different from yours? GOD DAMNIT THE $$$$$ SPENT ON PRO BIKES VS MY CHEAP TAIWAN MADE BIKE IS LIKE THE DISTANCE FROM THE EARTH AND THE SUN!!!! WAY TOO MUCH DIFFERENCE!!!! DONT ASK STUPID QUESTIONS 🤣🤣🤣

  16. Hamsterwheel on August 4, 2022 at 11:44 pm

Nice to see several of the boys rocking the Rock Shox Zeb, now I feel kinda proud that I have the same front fork lol

  17. Tone Loke on August 4, 2022 at 11:44 pm

The biggest difference between the pro’s bikes and ours!!!! An unlimited budget 💲💲💵💵

  18. David DeMoise on August 4, 2022 at 11:45 pm

Some one needs to show the pro mechanic that’s “all about the details” how to cut a zip tie properly.

  19. Rin Rat on August 4, 2022 at 11:46 pm

Focusing on the differences rather than on all the technology at once really makes things both understandable and interesting.

  20. English MTB in France on August 4, 2022 at 11:46 pm

Felt like Rich was rushing everyone on this video. 🤔

  21. nth on August 4, 2022 at 11:47 pm

I’d love to know if Spectrals used by pros (if there are still such) get this horseshit of headset as the rest of us

  22. MTB Ohana on August 4, 2022 at 11:49 pm

Interesting to see more mullets bikes under some of the top pro riders.

  23. normalpersonbikecheck on August 4, 2022 at 11:49 pm

You cannot buy three of the parts on Elliot’s bike. Forks and shock are the new rs and you cannot buy a 27.5 Michelin dh tyre for love nor money.

  24. Muscle-Milk-KTM on August 4, 2022 at 11:54 pm

I see mtb’s as dirt bikes baby brother. They pretty much dirt bikes without engines. I ride and follow MX, stock dirt bikes are more than enough for the majority of people so what’s the difference between a stock dirt bike & a factory one? The engines will be tuned to the riders style, parts that are unavailable to the general public. Same with the suspension, brakes & even the handlebars & foot pegs will be tailor made. A lot of the stuff will be handmade like foot begs & triple clamps. These bikes are a work of art. It’s no different in the mtb world, component’s are tailor made for the rider & some stuff isn’t available to the public (yet).

  25. robociock on August 4, 2022 at 11:56 pm

Yes they are ten times more expensive

  26. Hannessomething on August 5, 2022 at 12:00 am

I was really intrigued about the single wall rims to be honest, wouldn’t mind trying a set of high quality single wall rims myself!

I’d race any of them on my San quentin 😂😂😂

  29. György Mohl on August 5, 2022 at 12:02 am

    2:35 whoops 😀

  30. Christian Schneider on August 5, 2022 at 12:02 am

Really interesting. The EWS racers seem to take a step back from the slackness race.

  31. Reuben Neate on August 5, 2022 at 12:04 am

So are the biked with custom tweaks, especially geometry and suspension tweaks just showing us that the manufacturer didn’t get it exactly right?

  32. kandin Robinson on August 5, 2022 at 12:05 am

Now the question is, the bikes that were pretty much stock… are they closer to perfect from factory than the counterparts, and that’s why the rest are changed

  33. Andrew NZ on August 5, 2022 at 12:07 am

Really enjoyed this, more so than I thought I would if I was to be totally honest. Good work team!!

  34. Dennis Seyfried on August 5, 2022 at 12:08 am

1992 Karakoram paintjob on the GT! Love it!

  37. Ricky Barker on August 5, 2022 at 12:13 am

Let’s get some more detail, rider weight fork and shock set up, flats or clipless, tyres, casings, pressures, pad types etc 👍

  38. LoamLab Components on August 5, 2022 at 12:13 am

Looks like the trend to wider bars has truly reversed. Charlie on 740mm.

  39. Anthony James on August 5, 2022 at 12:13 am

What was the name of those bar ends to protect the pinky on the S-Work

  40. Jesse James on August 5, 2022 at 12:14 am

The line is so blurred from Pro bike to Joe bike nowadays!

  41. Antti Tapio on August 5, 2022 at 12:14 am

Great and interesting video! Had to search how those bikes with custom CNC linkage look like.

  42. Paganiproductions on August 5, 2022 at 12:16 am

big travel mountainbikes look similar to motocross bikes from the side witout the engines

  43. xJuiCYxxJaYx on August 5, 2022 at 12:17 am

    nice pinkbike segment!!

10:10 what are those grips? the look mint

  46. Lame Fart on August 5, 2022 at 12:18 am

Great bikes! So not too slack and overbraked. Lol

Wtf. Your shots are too wide! A plane can fit the top and sides. 🤣🤣🤣 You could’ve shot closer to the owner and the bike. I was half expecting Blake to appear somewhere in those spaces.🤷‍♂️😆

  47. Jason C. on August 5, 2022 at 12:18 am

Looks nothing like a Mountain Bike from the 70s and 80s which were just really Gravel bikes.
