Good and clear instructions. Adjustment of ‘B tension’ is affected by the rear suspension position. Just saw another video which lines it up at your normal sag position. SRAM eagle comes with a tool which you use to line the top cog against the jockey wheel to get the position correct

Could you please make a video on chain drop when back pedaling using a Shimano XT 1×11,
11 to 46 Tooth cassette please? I would really like to know how to fix this issue without having to buy more or new components if possible. But if I must, then so be it.

  3. Christopher Scriven on June 25, 2019 at 7:04 pm

I like that with subtitles on, the opening graphic has [WOOSH] when the GMBN logo appears. If my mechanical skills could be subtitled it’d be "prrrrrrrrrrp"

  4. JDMTB on June 25, 2019 at 7:04 pm

What about play in the shifter lever itself? I have the GX Eagle and there is some play in the lever. I’m not sure if it is normal or if I need to make an adjustment. It shifts ok. But I think I would rather not have ANY play whatsoever in my lever. Thoughts?

  5. Merrick Moore on June 25, 2019 at 7:04 pm

Bought a used bike, decals were messed up so I got about 50$ off, doesn’t shift consistently and the front brake lever is a bit out of place. Should I go back and ask the shop to fix the issues or buy a new bike (they had the same one new, I just bought the used one instead)?

My crank won’t shift what do i do?

  8. GNX157 on June 25, 2019 at 7:07 pm

Have to disagree with Doddy. If you look at Shimano’s design docs and white papers, it’s the lower jockey wheel that does the shifting and aligning. This is evidenced by the fact that the lower has no side to side play but the upper slides side to side by a good amount. I also believe it is better to disconnect the shift cable from the derailleur before setting the upper and lower limits.

  14. bigtruck guy on June 25, 2019 at 7:12 pm

Hey Doddy! I have a Saint non clutch derailleur, and when I land after jumping, the chain often skips one cog larger. I dont realize it until I pedal and end up torque shifting into the proper gear. Any help?

  25. Justin O'Brien on June 25, 2019 at 7:21 pm

Nice to see a bike being worked on that looks like it has been used. I see so many videos where these guys are working on brand new bikes that haven’t touched the ground. They won’t encounter some of the issues you’d see on a well ridden bike.

  26. Epicalty on June 25, 2019 at 7:21 pm

my bike takes a while to shift. for example when shift something keeps clicking for a while then it shifts. or i can shift up twice so i goes up one gear and is clicking for the next one then i have to shift down to get it to the right gear i wanted. does anybody know whats wrong and how i could fix this?

  29. tom lewis on June 25, 2019 at 7:28 pm

I rounded one of the screw on my shifter, they still work perfectly, how often do you need to tighten them, because I won’t be able to.

  30. Tim Hall on June 25, 2019 at 7:28 pm

Good video but, didn’t relate “ feel” or what happens when you ride to what needs doing. E.g How does the shift behave when the hanger is bent etc. Also what causes the “ delayed shift” or double tap to get a single shift please. Ps gmbn deserve an Oscar!

    Suck a but

  32. Prog47 on June 25, 2019 at 7:30 pm

I have similar noises but I don’t understand why. I only removed the rear wheel so I can put some grease on the quick release. and now the derailleur sounds like the example when the chain is too tight.

  33. Alok Ratn on June 25, 2019 at 7:30 pm

Hey man .. The chain shift is always one gear less then what it shows in the gear meter ..what should I do?? Suppose it is 3rd on meter but the chain Is on 2nd gear . I can’t reach the 6th gear even if it shows 6 in the meter (its on 5th gear) and in 1st gear (on meter )the chain comes out of the 1st gear .please reply what to do??

  34. Life on Two Wheels on June 25, 2019 at 7:34 pm

  36. Chris Waddington on June 25, 2019 at 7:40 pm

Great video very clear! I have recently bought a Marin Nail Trail. It has SRAM 1x the bike is great but the gears dick around. The cable pops off the shifter when in first gear you have to take off the shifter cover on the handle bars and pop it back on. I fixed this problem with cable tension but now can’t get the bottom two gears the highest gears. I am not sure if I have Fxxx it up or there’s a problem with the gear system I can not fix without replacement parts.

Could anyone help me i cant shift my rear deraileur to the smallest

  38. Shojo Dagger on June 25, 2019 at 7:42 pm

How to solve shifting problems in 3 easy steps:
    1. remove shitty index shifters & throw them away, (or sell them to suckers on ebay)
    2. install good friction shifters, the "ratchet" kind that go click click click when you turn the lever, this "micro-indexing" is all the indexing you’ll need. Get vintage Shimano if you can, if not, SunRace makes some decent knockoffs of the old Shimano design.
    3. adjust the derailleur travel.
    4. (bonus step) enjoy how your derailleur keeps working without needing to be readjusted every 2 miles!
Seriously I changed my rear derailluer about 6 yrs ago, (dumped the front derailleur entirely) I went from SRAM to Shimano & I hated the SRAM grip shifters, but new Shimano shifters were too expensive, so I put on an old Shimano thumby I had found to save money. I adjusted the derailleur once and have not touched it since, except to take up slack from cable stretch, it still shifts perfectly 6 yrs later!

  39. Jan-Kaspar Mille on June 25, 2019 at 7:42 pm

My shifting works just fine. But when I do sprints my bike just shifts randomly.

  40. EventHorizon on June 25, 2019 at 7:44 pm

you absolutely ignored Ghost Shifting (aka Auto Shifting). In other words, you did not describe Ghost Shifting and how to fix it.
