10 Awesome Car Parts From SEMA – Specialty And Performance Parts Car Show

10 Awesome Car Parts at one of the World’s Largest Car Shows: SEMA 2015. SEMA features some of the worlds most amazing cars and incredible aftermarket car parts. Walking the showroom floors, here are 10 parts I found to be particularly cool from an engineering standpoint, including a variable twin-scroll turbo, exterior gas tanks, external damper reservoirs with fins, the Arial Atom’s pushrod suspension, top mounted radiators, exhaust muffler diverter valves, electronically controlled dampers, crystalline IR blocking window film, a burning man car’s suspension and inboard brakes, and finally an ice filled barrel intercooler.

They’ve been using those ice box intercoolers in drag racing for years

  7. Booksworthss on August 30, 2022 at 1:36 am

You were there?! Awh man, I wish I saw you and could’ve took a pic or autograph. Your vids are great.

  8. Thee Adjudicator on August 30, 2022 at 1:36 am

The Citroën 2cv used inboard brakes before it was cool

  9. Atmadeep Mukherjee on August 30, 2022 at 1:38 am

Nice informative video, but a tad too fast !! Would love to see a variable twin-scroll turbo video from you, Jason !!!!

  10. Skylancer-Zer0 on August 30, 2022 at 1:39 am

I would like to know the advantages/disadvantages of having inboard brake rotors vs. outboard rotors. My ’93 Jaguar XJ6 has inboard rotors (I believe only on the rear axle but could be wrong) along with many other older model jags.

  11. Trey on August 30, 2022 at 1:42 am

You should do a video on King Bypass shocks and the suspension geometry/design of trophy trucks and ultra4s

  12. Tyler Dowd on August 30, 2022 at 1:44 am

    No Twin Charged STi?

  13. Christian Lewis on August 30, 2022 at 1:46 am

    "Hey wanna race?"
"Yeah, just let me stop at the servo and get a bag of ice!"

    Hi EE,
What is the name of the Variable Twin Scroll Turbocharger?
I know the Variable Vane Turbo for petroleum currently out from Borg Warner is the BV50 and is featured in the Porsche 997 Turbo.
Any further stats on this turbo like operating temperatures, max boost pressure, etc would be immensely helpful!
    Thanks heaps!

  15. Phos9 on August 30, 2022 at 1:47 am

I think it was actually Koenigsegg that invented those variable twin scroll turbochargers? They actually 3D print them in titanium, it’s such a complex casting that at their volume printing is cheaper.

  16. Jordan Hillard on August 30, 2022 at 1:47 am

There have been water to air intercoolers for a long time, so I don’t get what’s special.

  17. Eric Klepadlo on August 30, 2022 at 1:56 am

Feel the Bern! I see what you did there.

  18. CORZER0 on August 30, 2022 at 1:56 am

Cool list. Glad you are having fun and sharing your trip with us. I only researched the 3M crystalline tint though. Could be a good thing in Tampa/Phoenix.

  19. RHEIDTECH on August 30, 2022 at 1:59 am

ya know why its #1? after you win you can reach in and grab a cold beer.

  20. 66AGW on August 30, 2022 at 1:59 am

  21. Jacked Russell on August 30, 2022 at 2:00 am

They’re actually selling those metal ice boxes for $1400?

  22. areitu on August 30, 2022 at 2:02 am

I’m surprised at how clean that Burning Man car is…last time I saw it, it was covered in dust, and glowing neon colors.

  23. Alden Clarke on August 30, 2022 at 2:03 am

So many cool things! The spiked rotors of the burning man vehicle were awesome

  24. gbtw on August 30, 2022 at 2:04 am

Those rotopax fuel containers are often used on motorcycle. They are pretty good in a tumble too.

  25. 马玿TennisGuy on August 30, 2022 at 2:05 am

What’s the turbine in the thumbnail?

  26. Lawrence Lo on August 30, 2022 at 2:07 am

    Hi Engineering Explained,
How does dampers tranfer Kinetic energy into heat?
    Thanks 🙂

  27. User Name on August 30, 2022 at 2:08 am

Those rota packs are awesome. If you go wheeling or go out in your vehicle for extended periods of time its nice to have them. Fuel, water, etc.

  28. Jorge Alberto Cortes Ospina on August 30, 2022 at 2:11 am

please give more references about brands and products Part numbers

  29. Mychael Parsons on August 30, 2022 at 2:13 am

Hey EE, I was wondering if you could do a video on the power unit of the Porsche 919 hybrid LMP 1 car and explain what made it so good. Thanks

  30. dreamrealitysyndrome on August 30, 2022 at 2:13 am

    Ice ice baby

  31. Robert Tanksley on August 30, 2022 at 2:14 am

This is why engineers annoy me.

That metal box is so simple, yet so freaking effective for drag runs or short auto x laps. Simple, effective, cheap to produce, no moving parts. Works well. That is amazing.

  32. vFatalSpartan on August 30, 2022 at 2:15 am

    Amazing content!

  33. Steven Slead on August 30, 2022 at 2:15 am

Inboard brakes are such a bitch to do a brake job on. Like the Alfa Romeo GTV6, holy crap

  34. inuysha360 on August 30, 2022 at 2:20 am

would love to hear more about the turbo, electronically controlled dampers and the push-rod suspension system!

  35. Paul Rodriguez on August 30, 2022 at 2:20 am

I’m disappointed you chose #1 for ur list

  36. Jason Meeks on August 30, 2022 at 2:20 am

How did you get in sema

  37. ChiangMoney on August 30, 2022 at 2:22 am

    Authentic Vroom Vroom xDDDD lmao

  38. TheFlacker99 (Flak) on August 30, 2022 at 2:23 am

I have a packing bypass tube for my exhaust. Cheap, efficient, no moving parts to fail, ETC.

  39. ahmed shamsi on August 30, 2022 at 2:24 am

You can always cool your drinks as well as your car with that ice box

  40. Alex Porter on August 30, 2022 at 2:24 am

you should do a video pros cons of inboard brakes

  41. Bleeding Concrete on August 30, 2022 at 2:25 am

That ice cooling a turbo charger is nothing new. I remember watching one of those mini documentaries on /drive called something like "Why turbos are the best" and the man speaking talks about using ice to cool a turbo charged car several decades ago.

  42. NeOtvaranKanal on August 30, 2022 at 2:25 am

you could make a video about inboard vs outboard brakes, i think it would be interesting

  43. Francisco Franco on August 30, 2022 at 2:28 am

I’m sorry but how old are you ? you seem young but yet idk

  44. zip89105 on August 30, 2022 at 2:29 am

No superchargers? Keep the turbo, I want my power NOW !!

  45. Ismael Kafeltz on August 30, 2022 at 2:30 am

I thought these "first" comments were gone years ago already. Darwin would be disappointed knowing nothing has changed (to better)…

  46. Адилет Абдрахманов on August 30, 2022 at 2:32 am

Please discuss electroturbines! Their efficiency and performance and maybe some existing examples!
P.S. I think that with electroturbines you can "plot" any torque-curve you want.
